Vanderbilt Fairfield Inn by Marriott
Nashville, TN
Located at the edge of Vanderbilt University’s campus in midtown Nashville, this project delivers a vibrant, branded 155-room hotel tailored to the needs of an active urban campus environment. The 11-story mixed-use building includes 7 stories above ground and 4 stories below ground. The hotel’s design balances operational efficiency, guest comfort, and logistical demands while successfully integrating vertical circulation systems within a constrained 0.5-acre urban site.
The building is equipped with three traction elevators, originally specified as ThyssenKrupp Synergy 300 E models, which has since been discontinued. The elevator system consists of one 3,500-pound, stretcher-capable service elevator, one 2,500-pound front-and-rear opening elevator, and one standard 2,500-pound passenger elevator.
The 4-story underground parking garage houses 159 parking spaces, maximizing utility on a tight a compact site. Two bicycle parking spaces were also provided to meet code requirements. The gross enclosed building area excluding the garage is 85,499 square feet and the totaling approximately 152,400 square feet when including the below-grade garage and surface parking.
Completed in 2018, the project illustrates Tinker Ma’s ability to specify the appropriate elevator systems based on speed, capacity, and number of floors for optimal performance and long-term functionality.
